Crop: Wishbone flower (Torenia fournieri)
Property: Changed flower color

Flower color is one of the most important characteristics of ornamental flowers, so plant breeders are making great efforts to breed varieties with new flower colors. So far, modified flower color has been achieved through traditional breeding or by the use of mutation-causing chemicals. Japanese scientists at the Iwate Biotechnology Research Center have used CRISPR/Cas as an alternative approach to alter the properties of Torenia. In contrast to the original purple blossom, the processed plants had a light blue to white flower color.
